What If They Were Wrong?

It’s strange how often we make decisions about things we’ve never actually experienced for ourselves. Careers, relationships, opportunities, even versions of ourselves we might have become. Somewhere along the way, we hear enough stories from people who failed, got hurt, or decided something wasn’t possible, and their experience slowly becomes our conclusion.

I think that’s what strikes me about the story of the twelve scouts. They all walked the same land. They all saw the same cities, the same people, and carried back fruit from the same fields. But they came back with two very different reports. Ten believed the obstacles were too big. Two believed the promise was bigger. The land itself never changed. Only the report did. And an entire generation accepted one report without ever seeing the land through their own eyes.

I wonder how often we do the same thing. We inherit someone’s fear, disappointment, or assumptions and call it wisdom. Sometimes it may be wisdom. But sometimes it’s simply a borrowed conclusion. And before we decide what isn’t possible, it might be worth asking one question: What if they were wrong?
