God Has More in Store

Most of us don’t take things because we’re greedy. We take them because somewhere deep down we stopped believing that asking would be enough. That God had enough. That there was actually more where that came from.

David had everything. A kingdom. A legacy. A relationship with God that most people would trade anything for. And he still reached for something that wasn’t his — another man’s wife — and then used his power to cover it up. Not because he was lacking, but because he stopped trusting that what God had for him was sufficient. Taking felt faster than waiting. Easier than asking.

When the prophet Nathan finally confronted him, God didn’t begin with the sin. He began with the reminder. I gave you the kingdom. I gave you protection. I gave you everything you have. And if that had been too little, I would have given you more.

That is the line that stays with you. Not the punishment. Not even the consequences. The fact that God looked at David in his worst moment and said you didn’t have to take it. You could have just asked. I had more for you.

How many things have we reached for, rushed toward, or taken outside of God’s hand, not because He was withholding, but because we stopped trusting the asking. Because waiting started to feel like a no. Because what we could see felt more reliable than what He promised.

That’s not just David’s story. That’s human. And it’s worth sitting with, not in shame, but in honesty. Where have you stopped asking because you stopped believing there was more?

Because the truth hasn’t changed. He still has more. He always has. And He’s still saying the same thing He said to David: if what I gave you felt like too little, you could have come to me.

There is more.

We can choose the shortcut. We can’t choose what it costs. But we can always choose to ask.
