It’s So Hard to Say Goodbye to Yesterday

Holding on doesn’t always look like resistance. Sometimes it looks like remembering too much. Replaying what used to work. Revisiting who you were when life felt clearer. The danger isn’t looking back. It’s staying there long enough that forward movement slows.

Letting go is rarely clean. There’s grief involved, even when you’re leaving something that no longer fits. Loss doesn’t only belong to tragedy. It shows up in change, in transition, in seasons that end quietly. When grief goes unacknowledged, it settles in and begins shaping decisions before we realize it.

So much of what we’re witnessing right now feels like scattering. People uprooted. Systems stretched. Familiar structures giving way. What looks like disruption often becomes expansion, even when it doesn’t feel purposeful in the moment. Movement creates space for healing, clarity, and joy we never planned for.

Growth asks more than motion. It asks for transformation. Who you were before may not be equipped for what’s ahead, and that isn’t failure. It’s formation. The work happening within you matters just as much as where you’re going.

Living in yesterday eventually compromises tomorrow. Not because the past was wrong, but because it already did what it was meant to do. If you’re feeling stuck, it may not be because you lack direction. You may still be saying goodbye. That part matters. There is still joy ahead, but it requires release.
