Be Humble or Be Humbled

In a world where everyone is chasing power, praise, and recognition, the story of Herod in Acts 12 speaks louder than ever. Herod stood before the people dressed in royal splendor, taking credit for what belonged to God. The crowd called him a god, and instead of turning their praise toward the Lord, he received it for himself. In that moment, his pride became his downfall. God will not share His glory with anyone. Pride is spiritual plagiarism, and it separates us from the very One who gives us breath.

We see that same spirit all around us today. Leaders seek the spotlight, people fight for status, and our culture celebrates self over surrender. Yet, every gift, every opportunity, and every heartbeat comes from God. Without Him, we are nothing. If God doesn’t do it, it cannot be done.

To stay grounded, we have to keep God first. We cannot place anyone or anything beside Him. We must admit our mistakes, accept our limits, and remember that we are sinners saved by grace. Say “thank you” often. Remember where God brought you from, how He lifted you when you couldn’t lift yourself, and the doors He opened when none seemed possible. Gratitude keeps us humble, and humility keeps us close to God.

When we give Him the glory, His Word continues to spread and flourish. When we bow low, He lifts us higher than we could ever go on our own. Be humble before you are humbled. Keep your heart soft, your spirit teachable, and your praise loud. Let everything that has breath praise the Lord.
