It is one thing to say you want to grow as a Christian, but growth is not measured by how you see yourself. The Word of God is the only mirror that tells the truth. James 1:19-26 reminds us that hearing the Word without living it is like looking in a mirror and forgetting what you saw.
It is a mark of maturity when you can face yourself honestly. Revelation 3:17 warns against thinking we are rich and need nothing when we are poor, blind, and naked without Christ. Matthew 7:22-23 shows us that even those who work in His name can be turned away if they never truly knew Him. That should humble us and draw us closer to His truth.
John 17:17 tells us the Word is truth and it sanctifies us. But truth is not always comfortable. The heart can be hard, shallow, crowded, or fruitful. Which one is yours today? Do you enjoy receiving the Word of God? Do you do what it says? Can you keep your mouth shut when it is wise to do so? Can you stand and fight the enemy using the Word like Jesus did?
We can only measure our walk by the Word of God. Not by how we feel. Not by what others say. The Word will cut away the false and strengthen the real. And when it does its work in you, it will be for your good. It will be for His glory. And it will always work in your favor.
If God is for us, who can be against us?
