Now That You’re Standing Still… What Do You Want?

There’s a strange kind of silence that follows a major life transition. It might come after a job ends, a move is complete, the kids leave home, or a personal chapter finally closes. You’ve done the hard part—you’ve held it together, navigated uncertainty, and landed somewhere new.

And now… you’re here.

For a moment, things are still. The urgency fades. You’re not rushing anymore. You’re not constantly explaining yourself or solving the next crisis. You finally have space.

But what happens next?

For many, this quiet moment is unexpectedly disorienting. It can feel like you should know what you want now. People around you might ask, “So what’s next?” as if you have an answer ready. But the truth is, many of us get so used to surviving the change that we forget how to dream beyond it.

When you’ve been in survival mode, desire can feel unfamiliar. Even indulgent.

So let’s slow it down. Let’s not rush to fill the quiet with a five-year plan or a tidy label. What if this season is meant for asking different kinds of questions—ones that don’t require a polished answer?

• What are you curious about right now?

• When do you feel most like yourself?

• Is there something you’ve been afraid to want?

• What would feel easy, or even fun, to try next?

This isn’t about finding “the answer.” It’s about remembering that your desires matter. Even if they’re small. Even if they’ve changed. Especially if they’ve changed.

You don’t have to figure everything out right away. But you do get to want something.

Even now.

Especially now.

So if you’re standing still for the first time in a while—what’s tugging at you?
